Best Walking Sandals For Women Overall: Midform Universal Sandal
Best Walking Sandals For Women With Foam Cushioning: Birkenstock Arizona EVA Sandals
Classic Walking Sandals For Women: FP Movement X Teva Terra Fi 5 Sandals
We’re firm believers that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style — and that’s especially true when it comes to the best walking sandals for women. There are many walking boots available, but now spring/summer is here, we’re particularly interested in chic walking sandals for our comfy shoe collections.
Not convinced that comfortable sandals can be stylish? Emily Ratajkowski was spotted last summer in Axel Arigato's Delta flip-flops. If there’s one thing we know about EmRata it’s that she can set a shoe trend. From her Puma Speedcat sneakers to the divisive part-dad trainer, part-ballet shoe Foundry Mews’ flats, if they’re on EmRata’s feet, we want them too.
Unsurprisingly, the Axel Arigato Deltas are pretty much impossible to get your hands on – or feet into – this season. Luckily for us, there are loads of other options to go for. Whether you’re looking to splurge on a high-end pair of sandals like Ancient Greek Sandals' Aristea Platforms or want a high-street option like Skechers' Arch Fit Footsteps Day Dream Sandals, we’ve got you covered.
Still not persuaded? The street style set are proving these shoes aren’t just made for walking but will complement your off-duty looks too. Pair with midi skirts and tees for an easy daytime look, or elevate a pair with your favourite spring jacket. And sunglasses, obvs.
So, what do we need to know when it comes to practicality? “Look for durability and avoid flexibility,” recommends Chanel Perkins, DPM, a board-certified podiatrist. “Any sandal with built-in arch support will be best for walking; sandals that can easily fold in half will prove problematic.” (Sorry, flimsy flip-flops — you’re best reserved for lounging on the beach). Although it might seem counterintuitive, you’re looking for “rigidity and firmness” throughout the bottom half of your footwear, Dr. Perkins says.
Because we’re just as obsessed with comfort as you are, our editors have tracked down the very best pairs (including plenty of walking sandals on Amazon) that actually hold up to hours of wear while ticking the two most important boxes: style and support. So if you're going on a night out or in the market for chic-but-practical options for travelling and trekking in, these are the absolute best walking sandals for women, tested and reviewed by GLAMOUR editors worldwide.
The best walking sandals for women, tested by GLAMOUR UK editors:
- Best for comfort: Birkenstock Arizona EVA Sandals, £45, Schuh
- Best for long walks: FP Movement X Teva Terra Fi 5 Sandals, £108, Free People

Best Walking Sandals For Women Overall: Midform Universal Sandal
Teva sandals offer everything you could want in a
comfortable shoe: easily adjustable straps, durable rubber outsoles, cushy and odour-resistant foam footbeds, and just the right country-cute look. There’s a reason that you see these things on hikers and city-dwellers alike. “I wear these everywhere come warm weather,” says GLAMOUR US Commerce Editor Malia Griggs. “They’re so comfortable, not too flat or too blocky, and look cute with whatever I wear (paired with exercise dresses is my fave look).”- Sizes: UK 3-12.
- Colours: 6 options.
- What we love: Height-boosting sole; adjustable straps; grippy outsoles.
- What could improve: The platform might be too tall for some.
Review: Despite my dedication to comfort, it took me a while to get into Tevas — I just didn’t get it. But when every member of my group chat (Gourds Gone Wild) had gotten a pair and swore by how satisfied their feet felt, my FOMO became so severe that I got myself a pair. Fast forward to today, and I’m a die-hard Teva enthusiast. I have several pairs in varying colours and wear them all over the place, since they never trigger my foot pain and are actually kind of cute (in a Gen Z way). Catch me in my Tevas walking the dogs, on hot-girl walks, at the beach, by the pool, you name it. They can get wet, dirty, hot, be ruthlessly insulted — and always look and feel just as good as new. — Danielle Sinay, Glamour US Associate Beauty Editor.

Best Walking Sandals For Women With Foam Cushioning: Birkenstock Arizona EVA Sandals
An all-foam take on the brand’s classic Arizona style, this popular pick is perfect for vacationing. It’s waterproof, lightweight, and easy to stuff in a carry-on. There’s no ankle strap, but the brand’s signature insoles literally mould to your feet over time, ensuring a secure fit. Just note that Birks are not for people with extra-narrow feet; these things give you room to breathe.
- Sizes: UK 5-7.
- Colours: 2 options.
- What we love: Waterproof; many color options; relatively affordable; lightweight.
- What could improve: Might be too wide; light colours stain easily.
Review 1: I’ve been resisting Birks for decades, but when the colourful EVA versions of their signature sandals were released and I slipped my feet into them, I simply couldn’t ignore how comfortable they were. Beyond being truly squishy and shock-absorbing, they’re also light as air, which makes them perfect for popping into a suitcase if you’re travelling to a warm destination. They’re also waterproof. They’re my absolute favourite pool and beach companion, but they can endure walking long distances, and there’s no blistery break-in period. Although they don’t offer the same arch support as the leather version, I find these infinitely more dreamy, and they last. My husband also lives in his. — Brie Schwartz, Glamour US Commerce Director.
Review 2: I wanted a pair of walking sandals that didn't look like walking sandals, if you catch my drift. A hard request, I know, but these Arizona EVA sandals from Birkenstock have genuinely ticked the box. They're fashionable enough to wear them around the city without anyone raising an eyebrow, but supportive and comfortable enough that I can last on my feet all day. They're also cloud-light, so taking them on holiday is going to be the absolute dream as it won't affect my 20kg luggage allowance. – Mayola Fernandes, GLAMOUR UK Commerce Writer.

The most comfortable sandal for all those steps you’ll get in is hands-down the FP Movement X Teva Terra Fi 5s. Made of recycled polyester, the sandals have thick, textured footbeds and straps that you can adjust in three areas for a secure fit (behind the heel, across the ankle, and above the toes).

- Colours: Pink Cinnamon/Banana.
- What we love: Comfortable; supportive; three adjustable straps; ideal for walking long distances.

The most comfortable shoe in my wardrobe, by far. I can actually feel them absorbing the shock of my feet pounding the pavement, yet they're so airy and light. – Sophie Cockett, GLAMOUR UK Senior European Commerce Editor.

Best Walking Sandals For Women With A Backstrap: Dr. Martens Voss Quad Sandals
Footwear brand Dr. Martens brings its signature grunge-glam style to its sandals. The sturdy welted construction of its thick black leather straps is edgy and durable, and its cushioned footbed is surprisingly comfy, says Glamour US Senior Commerce Editor Jenifer Calle. Plus, its 1.5-inch platform provides a nice amount of height.
- Sizes: EU 36-43.
- Colours: 2 options.
- What we love: Comfortable out of the box; ideal for long walks and standing; adjustable straps; padded insole.
- What could improve: Limited colours; rubber can’t get wet.
Review: I was pleased with how comfortable these Dr. Martens sandals were. The bottom ended up losing traction from so much wear, so I immediately bought another pair. Dr. Martens usually take a while to break in, but from the start this pair was super comfy and flexible. My arches feel supported, the straps don’t dig into my feet, and the chunky platform gives me a little boost (I’m 5'2", for reference). I wear these with dresses, jeans, shorts, you name it. – Jennifer Calle, Glamour US Senior Commerce Editor.

Fashionable Walking Sandals For Women: Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle Sandals
Birkenstock’s best-selling Arizona sandal gets a modern update with big buckles across the adjustable straps — without losing any of its original comfort. - Sizes: UK 3-8.
- Colours: 7 options.
- What we love: Big buckle; adjustable straps; grippy outsoles.
- What could improve: The regular footbed might be too wide for some.
Review: Despite graduating from “the town fashion forgot,” I’ve held onto one post-grad staple: Birkenstocks — these Birkenstock sandals, to be exact. Even after moving away, I’m still firmly planted in my Arizonas, and I’m not budging. The two-strap style rocks a bold hardware buckle for extra flair. With a comfy footbed and a rainbow of colours to pick from, they’ve got it all. And the best part? They’re perfect for running errands or meeting friends for last-minute plans, with no aches or pains involved. — Brittany Romano, Glamour US Contributor.

Funky Walking Sandals For Women: Kinetic Impact Y-Strap High Sandal
Sorel’s rubber-and-leather sandals don’t look like walking shoes, but they’re just as comfy and supportive as they are eye-catching. The shock-absorption EVA midsoles are moulded into a scalloped design, offering more traction underfoot than your average wedge sandals. Anyone else getting Marni vibes?
- Sizes: UK 3-10.
- Colours: 4 options.
- What we love: Unique design; supportive soles and midsoles; plenty of colour options.
- What could improve: Might run too wide.
Review: Thanks to an old injury, I only wear comfortable — borderline orthopedic, if I’m honest — shoes. Unfortunately, it can be a struggle to find options that still look cool without always relying on sneakers and Birkenstocks. So I was happily surprised when I found these platform sandals by Sorel, a brand best known for its weatherproof boots. Wearing these is like walking around in open-toed sneakers — in fact, I find them even more supportive than a lot of the tennis shoes I own. I’ve worn them to work, on vacation, and out with friends, and I love how they work with (almost) any outfit. And because they have a unique look, I get compliments every time I wear them. They also come in a lot of fun colour options so you can find the vibe that best matches you. I own a white pair currently, but I’m debating between adding the black or beige to my closet. — Anna Moeslein, Glamour Deputy Editor.

Inconspicuous Walking Sandals For Women: Teva Voya Infinity Sandal
Though Teva’s best-known for its more heartier, hit-the-trail sandals, it makes some lighterweight strappy numbers that look as pretty paired with workout clothes as they do a sundress. The Voyas slide right onto the foot, and their criss-crossing elastic straps stretch to create a snug fit.
