What is Caught about?

It's a Spanish adaptation of the Harlan Coben novel of the same name, and dropped on Netflix on 26 March. The streamer's synopsis reads: “Known for catching criminals, famed reporter Ema Garay faces a dilemma when the suspect in a teen's disappearance turns out to be someone close to her.”

Caught ending explained

After victim Martina's body is found in the woods, Ema must unravel the truth about what happened to her and who killed her.

We are initially led to believe that Marcos (played by Juan Minujin) is the prime suspect in Martina's murder. Ema initially asks him to help her report Fran, who had had an inappropriate interaction with Martina after she posted sexual videos for him. She had agreed to record a live video for him in a hotel room with no touching, but he had broken this rule, leading Ema to believe he may have gone on to hurt her.

But while she was with Marcos, she received a phone call from her colleague Vicky confirming that Marcos was a known scammer in Buenos Aires and had framed his childhood friend Leo for online grooming and sexual abuse in order to reclaim family land that is now owned by Leo's charity named Fronteras Foundation.

Ema asks Marcos point blank if he killed Martina, and he snaps and tries to kill her by striking her over the head with a rowing oar and trying to drown her while she was unconscious. Luckily, Ema gains consciousness in time and manages to escape and broadcast live on social media that Marcos just tried to kill her. While he begs his wife not to check her phone until they can speak and he can explain himself, he then deliberately crashes his truck into a logging truck.

Who killed Martina?

So while Marcos was a prime suspect for a while, it is then revealed that a rather different series of events led to Martina's death.

After noticing Armando (Martín Miller)'s drawings in the background of a photo of Martina at her memorial, Ema heads to Armando's house to investigate. She confronts him with the photograph, leading him to admit that he was on the boat with Martina on the night that she disappeared.

We see a flashback of the two of them, as they bond over feeling out of place. They took the boat back to Armando's house and hooked up, but the mood is ruined when Martina sees the video of Leo being framed and immediately calls Marcos to demand what he's done. When she admits to Armando that Leo is innocent and she was set up.

Armando is angry, demanding to know why she was involved in something like this. The argument escalated and led to Armando pushing her down the stairs in a panic, killing her by accident. Juliana, Armando's mother, comes home to find him at the foot of the stairs holding Martina's body. They dispose of her body and plant her phone at Leo's campsite.

While Juliana pleads with Ema to not report the truth, Armando steps forward and insists he would go to the police and confess.

We also discover who is responsible for abusing Camila and the other minors – it is discovered that a Fabián Ramos is responsible after a woman escapes his attempts at raping her and calls for help, and he is later identified by other multiple victims.

Is Leo alive?

While he was suspected dead, Leo's body wasn't found. While the police told Ema that the river's current luckily carried his body into the lake, she suspects he could've climbed out and escaped into the woods.

The final scene of Caught shows Leo as very much alive, though, in the mountains riding a horse. Maybe he will never return after the media frenzy around the false accusations and media coverage of him. We have many, many questions as to how he survived and whether he'll return though – but we're not sure if we'll get our answers, seeing as Caught is very much dubbed as a limited series and is therefore unlikely to have a second series.

We can still hold out hope for our answers, though!
