We love the idea of “undone” hair, but there's something about neat, sleek, pulled-together strands that just gets us. Our latest hair crush? The knotted ballerina bun.
Loose top knots with floaty face-framing tendrils definitely have a place in our glam repertoire, but if you want to tie it all back and look incredible, the knotted ballerina bun is cute, slick, sophisticated and – thanks to a modern makeover – it feels fresh and cool, too.
We spotted the hairstyle on Zoey Deutch earlier this week, who opted for the look for her appearance on Jimmy Fallon. But, a couple of days later her hairstylist, Danielle Priano, posted a close-up 360 of the bun so we could see just how pretty and intricate it is from all angles.

The knotted ballerina bun takes the classic ballerina (a sleek, swept back bun hitting mid way between a low bun and a top knot and tied tight with no ends loose) and remixes it. From the looks of things, Danielle parted Zoey's hair horizontally just above the ear and tied the lower section into a neat pony before twisting the hair and snaking it into a knotted bun shape. She repeated with the top section, making sure to comb Zoey's front sections back into an immaculate centre parting which she swept into the bun, then pinned into shape.
It's sweet and pretty, but the snatched shape feels a little fierce and sultry, too. Plus, if you're looking for a heatwave proof hairstyle, the look keeps all your hair off your neck and away from your face, locks it into place perfectly.

It's not the first time we've seen Zoey opt for a ballerina vibe, she wore her hair in a more classic ballerina bun for the red carpet of her latest movie, Not Okay.
