Judging by recent street style trends, it's safe to say that Massimo Dutti's new-in collection has everything you need for a post-Fashion Week wardrobe update.
As well as bag charms, frothy tulle, the best knitwear and fluffy shoes, I spotted everything from rugby shirts to leopard prints and earth-tone leathers – and guess which Spanish label currently has all of the above in stock? Yep…
In a bid to add to my autumn outfit ideas, I stopped by Massimo Dutti's Regent's Street store to see what stood out – so you don't have to. Bright red bled into its new-in collection thanks to cues from the Hermès AW24 runway, as well as Miu Miu-approved chocolate brown and Schiaparelli grey tones. All my dreams come true, then.
Massimo Dutti may be a high-street brand, but its pieces have longevity that will see you through more than just one season. To put it plainly, this isn’t just ephemeral fast fashion, people; it’s the foundation of an enduring wardrobe. See below if you don't believe me…
Welcome to my Massimo Dutti Dressing Room Diary.
The roll neck jumper
You will never regret investing in the best knitwear, trust me. While this roll neck comes with a higher price tag, cashmere is one of the hardest working fabrics your wardrobe can acquire, and, if you struggle with colour around this time of year but want to be a bit more adventurous than comfort-blanket black, then grey is your way forward.
The slinky dress
It's true what they say about the versatility of a little black dress (albeit, this one isn't ‘little’/short). While this lace-trimmed satin maxi slip is spot on for date night – just throw your partner's blazer over your shoulders if it's cold out – it also doubles as a slinky skirt under an oversized jumper. I paired it with the below winter boots to make it feel more ‘day time’, too.
The red cardigan
I'm not as brave as the models on the Hermès catwalk and probably wouldn't go for a top-to-toe look in this tone, but I couldn't resist this cardigan – especially thrown over a plain white t-shirt (like the one above). It immediately elevates the otherwise casual look and, better still, can be worn as a top thanks to the full button closure.
The Rugby Shirt
Rugby shirts are everywhere at the moment, and this one is knitted making it perfect for the colder months ahead. I'd wear it as the fashion set do; over a pair of the best jeans (the baggier the better) and some fashion trainers for a really androgynous finish.
The leather jacket
The Regent Street Massimo Dutti store had this nappa leather jacket in a worn chocolate brown hue which stole my heart the minute I saw it, but it doesn't seem to be available online just yet. The black one is just as yummy, though, and can be worn with everything from women's trouser suits to matching leather mini skirts.
The leopard print jumper
Leopard print is a neutral – I will die on that hill. It goes with everything (especially earthy accessories like the suede bag and patent loafers below), and isn't as mob-wife as some would lead you to believe…promise. This sweater is shaped to a subtly cropped cut, ideal for loosely tucking into high-rise waistbands.
The pinstripe trousers
I struggle to find the best tall jeans as a woman of 6ft, and it's just as hard when it comes to a pair of tailored trews. These look more like wide-leg trousers on the model, but fit me as their description suggests and fell straight on my legs. I'd wear them with a tonal knit and some chunky loafers.
