Airy layers

Layers aren't going anywhere, but instead of the heavy, plush layers of autumn-winter we're seeing lighter, swishier chops that add breeziness to your style. “Expect to see airy, layered styles like the butterfly cut, wearable wolf cuts, modern shags and cowgirl cuts which add volume and flow to the hair,” insists celebrity hair stylist and GHD UK Professional Ambassador, Patrick Wilson. “I think we’re seeing more personality in haircuts, that are very much tailored to the client,” he adds.

If you don't want anything too extreme, you can still lean on layers for some subtle structure. “A great way to keep long hair looking cool is to add some invisible layers, this is done by removing weight internally,” says Patrick. “Think of it like scaffolding for the hair, it gives the hair body and movement. A great example of this is the Chloe girls from this season's runways. A lot of the looks featured natural face framing with a '70s feel,” says Patrick.

Soft bob

A softly-cut blunt bob can give plenty of versatility and you can even incorporate some of those invisible layers mentioned above to introduce texture when you want, but disappear into the style when you don't. “If you’re feeling brave, add some choppy cheekbone layers. This will give the haircut more movement and softness,” says Patrick. Meanwhile Chlöe reckons textured bobs will always have a place in spring hair trends. “Think of an effortless, classic Alexa Chung style bob,” she says. “The chicest way to wear your short hair this season is by going for the barely styled look. Air drying the hair is great to achieve this look and apply some Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion,” she says.

XL Lengths

We spoke about the return of bohemia to our hair in our 2025 hair trends round-up, but hippy waves and locs are set to be major this spring-summer. “XL lengths will always be a fave with hair down to your waist and a wispy look (you’ll most likely need hair extensions for this),” says Chlöe.

Elfin crop

Shorter crops have been gaining momentum all the way through 2024, and they're staying put for 2025. They're cute, they're fresh and they're perfect for spring. “I think we’re in a shorter hair era," notes celebrity hair stylist and CEO at Hershesons salon, Luke Hersheson. “That noughties, slightly piecey kind of haircut will become more of a thing," he adds. "It's kind of a bob-ish length, but it's like a really grown out pixie – it’s elfin-y. Florence Pugh and Iris Law are both wearing this really well. It's slightly flicky, tufty and piecey,” he says. As for styling, “I think embracing natural and air-dried textures will be really important with this. This haircut works brilliantly on an air dried texture as opposed to feeling too blow dried or tonged,” advises Luke.

Letterbox bangs

If you're fringe-inclined, one style in particular has been taking off among celebs and cool-girls, which hair stylist, forecaster and hairvoyant, Tom Smith, has dubbed the look “letterbox bangs”.

“Characterised by the perfect horizontal framing of the eyes (and brows in shorter versions)," Tom says the look is inspired by “Audrey Hepburn and Birkin Bangs," and offers some delicate but statement face-framing. "This style is ‘piecey’ and not overly thick, so hints of the forehead can be seen through them and, thanks to the lighter density it won’t look blocky,” Tom explains.

Patrick's noticed it, too. “[I've] seen on Zoe Kravitz, Ariana Grande, Ashley Graham and Maya Jama. It’s that Audrey Hepburn Breakfast At Tiffanys reference that we know and love. I’d use the GHD Chronos to style it,” he says. And, Chlöe's on board, too. “Not for the weak, micro fringes are so on trend this season,” she says. “Keep them choppy and wispy and pair them with any hair length, whether that’s a pixie, bob or super long. As it’s disconnected from the rest of the hair, any length works,” she adds.

Intricate edges

This spring, it's all about the details and finding opportunities to play and personalise your style. “Intricate spiralling and edges are huge this spring-summer and such a fun way to add an element of interest to your look,” insists Chlöe.

Cool-girl updos

As the temperature goes up, our hair is, too. “This fashion week I’ve been seeing a lot of ponytails, plaits and more side-part updos,” notes Patrick. “I feel we will have more of this throughout the summer. Girls want easy hairstyles they can achieve at home, they also don’t want to look like they’ve tried too hard to achieve it,” he adds.

Grown-out bangs

If letterbox bangs or micro bangs are not your vibe, grown-out fringes will be trending, too. “A lot of my curly girls have been asking for grown out bangs,” says Patrick. “As we know, our curls can react different every wash day, so keeping a bit more length will allow for shrinkage. I always cut my curls in their natural state, this way you can see the shape being formed,” he continues. As for what to pair them with? “I’m also loving a slight ‘80s longer mullet with my more wavy and curly textures right now. They’re super easy to style with a diffuser, like the one from GHD,” he says.

Baby Blonde

As for colour? We asked celebrity hair colourist, Jenna Perry – whose clients include Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Camila Morrone – what to watch out for. “I’m loving Suki Waterhouse, she’s a great example of a baby blonde,” says Jenna, who's flagged the soft shade as one to watch for spring.

Pink pastels

For an offbeat colour-pop, pink is the way forward. “Pink is really hot right now,” confirms Jenna. “I’ve been so inspired by all the pastel shades. It’s such a fun way to add a little temporary punch to a classic highlight,” she adds. In terms of what's inspiring the trend, “I recently watched an astrological tiktok that said we’re returning to the vibes we had in 2017. Everyone is craving fun, and light heartedness. Pop music is really taking a centre stage with all the new pop girlies,” explains Jenna, so it stands to reason we're in our pink pop era.

Hand-painted highlights

If you're a low-key babe, the classics are still here for you. “For the more relaxed girl, the balayage, root shadow and face frame is definitely here to stay,” confirms Patrick. “Emily Ratajkowksi’s highlights at the Oscar’s were a perfect example of how well hand painted highlights grow out,” adds Jenna, and it's proof you don't necessarily have to go light and bright for summer, although we'll be seeing plenty of blonde balayage, too.

Muted cowgirl

Last but not least, copper is getting a strawberry spring makeover. “The cowboy copper and cherry cola we saw last year will be more of a muted tone this season,” says Patrick. Instead we'll see “copper gold tones and subtle hints this spring,” he says.
