Hype around Ultra Violette sunscreen has been burgeoning for the past couple of years. It's unsurprising: we all know that face sunscreen is a non-negotiable, but let’s be real – finding one (especially a mineral sunscreen) that’s both effective and enjoyable to wear is not always easy. For years, I struggled with thick, greasy formulas that left my skin feeling suffocated. But now, I’ve finally found a product that delivers high-level protection and feels barely there.

As someone who suffers with perioral dermatitis (a common condition that’s characterised by inflamed red bumps and patches around the mouth), I’m always on the lookout for gentle formulas that are non-irritating. In terms of SPF, this typically means opting for a mineral formula.

Recommended by dermatologists for sensitive skin – shop more of the best sunscreens for sensitive skin here – mineral SPF filters act like a shield, forming a physical barrier on this skin’s surface so that harmful UV rays can’t do their damage. Generally well-tolerated (and less irritating than certain chemical SPFs), the two key filters used in mineral sunscreen are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

It’s the latter, zinc oxide, that can be found in my new favourite formula: Future Fluid SPF 50+ Superlight Mineral Skinscreen from Ultra Violette. The most recent product to launch from the Aussie-born brand, Future Fluid is a total game-changer in the mineral SPF sphere.

“I am so excited to bring Future Fluid into the world because there really isn’t anything like this on the market,” says Ava Chandler-Matthews, Ultra Violette Co-Founder. And she’s right – historically, zinc oxide has had a bad rep, synonymous with chalky formulations that leave behind a white cast. “We really wanted to turn the perception of zinc on its head: it can be lightweight and cosmetically elegant.”

One of the silkiest SPFs I have tried, Future Fluid is incredibly lightweight. In fact, the texture reminds me more of a facial serum, rather than a sunscreen – something that can be attributed to how it’s made. “I think one of the most exciting things about this product is how it’s been formulated,” says Ava, “which is an oil-in-water emulsion vs a water-in-oil emulsion.”

The difference between the two? An oil-in-water emulsion provides a lighter and more easily spreadable texture, while a water-in-oil emulsion tends to be thicker in texture. “When you feel Future, everyone is just astounded at how light it is. The dry down and finish is almost imperceptible – you really feel the watery-ness of it,” adds Ava.

As well as offering high-factor, broad-spectrum protection, Future Fluid also packs a skincare punch with its cocktail of do-good ingredients. Pentavitin, a plant-derived mega-hydrator, teams up with vitamin E and squalane to soothe and hydrate sun-exposed skin. Double tick!

Though the formula looks tinted when it first comes out, it dries completely clear – no sticky residue, no ghostly cast. It’s weightless, breathable, and slots seamlessly into my routine. I apply it after my go-to niacinamide serum and before makeup; it doubles as a primer, keeping everything in place too.

Unlike many mineral SPFs I’ve tried, which can feel like a chore to apply, Future Fluid is a total joy to wear. It’s luxe without being fussy – the kind of product that makes your routine feel elevated, not overcomplicated.

The texture? Dreamy. It glides on effortlessly, never pills, and gives me that subtle, dewy finish I’m always chasing. I genuinely look forward to using it every morning – rare for sunscreen, I know – and it’s quickly become one of those holy grail products I can’t imagine skipping. Trust me, it’s that good.

Bravo, Ultra Violette – you’ve nailed it once again! This Ultra Violette sunscreen is the mineral SPF I didn’t know I needed and now can’t live without. Ahead, shop more mineral SPFs we love…
